EXCLUSIVE: Who is Ali Jawad?: McCain Campaign Dumps Key Hezbollah Agent, Convicted Insurance Defrauder; Feds, MI GOP Should Follow Suit

By Debbie Schlussel

Over the past week, I spent far less time writing for this website than planned. Instead, I spent hours on the phone with John McCain staffers and key supporters in Michigan to right a mistake.

And, unlike the Barack Obama who clings to anti-Semites and terrorism supporters, John McCain did the right thing: He dumped Ali Jawad–an open Hezbollah supporter and key agent of the terrorist group in the Detroit area. Jawad is also a federal insurance fraud convict.

On Friday, I received this written confirmation that Jawad was cut:

from: danny diaz - communications

Date: Fri, Apr 25, 2008 at 6:14 PM

Subject: RNC Response

To: writedebbie@gmail.com

Ali Jawad is no longer participating in efforts - whether fundraising or otherwise - on behalf of McCain Victory 2008.

-Danny Diaz, RNC Spokesperson

Danny Diaz

Republican National Committee (RNC)

(Emphasis added.)

ali jawad (standing), bank dept. terrorism official michael rosen (to jawad’s right), michigan fbi special agency in charge andrew arena (smiling, to rosen’s right)

“former” islamic terrorist imad hamad, ali jawad, michigan/ohio ice special agent in charge brian moskowitz, assistant secretary of homeland security for ice julie l. myers

I congratulate John McCain and his campaign because they proved that McCain truly is a maverick and independent of the Republican establishment who brought Mr. Jawad to his campaign. McCain’s Michigan and national staff have shown courage in bucking what is a sad trend on the part of the Michigan Republican Party: going for pro-Hezbollah Shiite cash and support. Michigan GOPers took lots of money from Jawad.

Last week, several high-dollar Michigan Republican donors received an invitation to a May 6th $2,300 per head campaign fundraiser. Both John McCain and Mitt Romney are scheduled to attend. The donors noticed the name, “Ali Jawad,” prominently listed on the Finance Committee and contacted me, knowing I had mentioned and written about him in the past.

Here are the specifics on Ali Jawad:

Ali Jawad and his company, Armada Oil, were convicted of insurance and mail fraud in federal court and ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in restitution and fines. Michael Mustapha Makki, Jawad’s co-defendant–also convicted–in the case, USA v. Makki et al, is a member of the Makki family, many members of which were convicted of cigarette smuggling for Hezbollah.

Va tornados

Several sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirm that Jawad sold cigarettes obtained from out of state and avoided paying the exorbitant Michigan cigarette tax he collected, pursuant to the scam. Although key members of law enforcement were aware of this, they were ordered by late, then-Dearborn Mayor Michael Guido not to pursue the matter and to call off their investigation. Mr. Jawad was a major donor to Guido, as was indicted Hezbollah financier and fugitive, Talal Chahine. In 2003, Jawad–originally from the Hezbollah stronghold of Nabatiya–and Chahine, together, accompanied Mayor Guido on a trip to Lebanon, for which they raised thousands of dollars. They visited the Hezbollah-controlled cities of Bint Jbeil and Qana.

Jawad is known as one of the most important agents of Hezbollah in the U.S. He is related (through his brother’s marriage into the Safieddine family) to Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah and the man Iran has designated as Nasrallah’s heir apparent, Hachem Safieddine (currently a member of the 7-member Hezbollah ruling council, the Shurah Al-Karar). The Jawad and Safieddine families have many business dealings …

Dr. Michael J. Breus: How Many Years Can You Sleep Off?

Now this is hilarious: Check out this site and scroll through the slideshow images of famous people we all know (without being plastic surgeons) have had a nip and tuck — or two. The article, which talks about the quest to live longer and look younger, takes a funny stab at the “ugly” pursuit of youth. And I mean ugly!

These days, it doesn’t take much to get a brow lift or a Botox injection. Does your forehead have tracks running across it? Do your cheeks sink in a little? Are your lips on the thin side? Well, there’s a fix for all that… but you won’t necessarily look twentysomething again. I guarantee it. You may fall pray to the “trout pout”; the frozen forehead; the surprised — or sinister-looking browline; and plastic portrait worthy of a wax museum.

Several sites have emerged to poke fun at celebrities’ plastic surgeries gone wrong–or at least they appear to have gone overboard. Sometimes it’s not even surgery that does it, but just too many trips to the happy dermatologist with a needle in hand. Maybe these people actually like the way they look. Who knows. The point is, modern technology can only do so much. And old technology still works: eat well, exercise, take good care of your skin without resorting to weird products and procedures, and get a good night’s sleep.

Ah, but not many people mention this last secret.

What if You Got Enough Sleep?

Here’s something to think about: if you slept like a baby every single night since birth, and got every hour you needed, how would you look at age 70? I know, that’s not going to happen. But it’s a thought. Imagine what you’d look like if your skin were never damaged by the sun. Or you never smiled. Or you never ate doughnuts and fast food. Or you never…lived a real life.

Ross mccall

I’m going to take a guess that if truly slept well for the majority of your life, you’d age beautifully and could even take about 5 years off your face by the time you’re 70. We know that sleep is our zone of rejuvenation. It allows us to replenish our cells, spur new cellular growth (like collagen!), and feel refreshed and energetic enough the next day to make healthy choices, such as working out and eating well. All of which bodes well for keeping up appearances.

Besides, those who look like they are “aging gracefully” win my vote. (As an aside, I write this post on the same day that the “exhaustion” factor in the Clinton vs. Obama war is making headlines. The candidates are getting sloppy with speeches, forgetful of past events — Clinton in Bosnia — and noticeably haggard. Obama’s hair is grayer now than it was just a year ago. All this before even potentially getting into the White House!)

Unfortunately, there seems to be an inverse relationship happening between sleep and cosmetic surgery. Sleep isn’t very popular these days, and yet cosmetic surgery increasingly is. Nearly 12 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2007 — a 7 percent increase from 2006 and a 59 percent increase from 2000. These procedures are like Band-Aids on our sleep deprivation.

From the looks of it, at least some Hollywood starlets seem to be getting their Zs. Which ones? Well, I’ll leave that up to you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I invite you to write back and cast your vote for the “best ager”, and maybe we can ask how many hours of sleep they get each night. I bet they rank sleep high on their priorities.

intentions, by oscar wildeintentionscontentsthe disintegrate of lyingpen, pencil, and subvertthe critic as artistthe truth of masksthe decay of lyinga conversation. persons: cyril and vivian. scene: the library of acountry edifice in nottinghamshire.cyril (coming in through the open window from the terrace). mydear vivian, don’t coop yourself up all epoch in the library. it isa perfectly lovely afternoon. the pretence is elaborate. there is amist upon the woods, like the purple bloom upon a plum. let us goand lie on the grass and smoke cigarettes and possess have a good time nature.vivian. enjoy nature! i am glad to announce ‘ that i have entirely mystifiedthat faculty. people explain us that art makes us love nature morethan we loved her ahead of; that it reveals her secrets to us; andthat after a careful study of corot and policewoman we see things inher that had escaped our reflection. my own live is thatthe more we study art, the less we care for nature. what artin point of fact reveals to us is nature’s lack of design, her curiouscrudities, her extraordinary monotony, her absolutely unfinishedcondition. nature has full intentions, of course, but, asaristotle in the twinkling of an eye said, she cannot cause to die a continue them out. when i look at avista i cannot help seeing all its defects. it is fortunatefor us, however, that nature is so imperfect, as otherwise weshould have no art at all. art is our vigorous protest, ourgallant strive to teach nature her proper place. as for theinfinite variety of nature, that is a abstract myth. it is not to befound in essence herself. it resides in the imagination, or fancy,or cultivated blindness of the man who looks at her.cyril. well, you need not look at the landscape. you can lie onthe grass and smoke and talk.vivian. but nature is so uncomfortable. grass is spirituous and lumpyand damp, and full of dreadful coal-black insects. why, even morris’spoorest workman could make you a more comfortable capacity for than thewhole of universe can. nature pales in the future the clobber of ‘thebyway someone’s cup of tea which from oxford has borrowed its name,’ as the versifier youlove so much once vilely phrased it. i don’t wail. if naturehad been warm, mankind would not at all secure inventedarchitecture, and i prefer houses to the open air. in a house weall feel of the proper proportions. everything is subordinated tous, fashioned for our use and our pleasure. egotism itself, whichis so requisite to a proper faculty of human dignity, is from A to Z thearise of indoor life. out of doors one becomes abstract anddisinterested. one’s individuality certainly leaves one. and thennature is so immaterial, so unappreciative. whenever i am walkingin the park here, i always feel that i am no more to her than thecattle that browse on the slope, or the burdock that blooms in theditch. nothing is more noticeable than that nature hates mind.thinking is the most unhealthy thing in the world, and people dieof it just as they pay one’s debt to nature of any other disease. fortunately, inengland at any rate, reminiscences is not catching. our splendidcollect as a people is entirely due to our national asininity. ionly hope we shall be capable to harbour this great historic rampart ofour happiness for diverse years to terminate; but i am afraid that we arebeginning to be settled-learned; at least everybody who is incapableof learning has taken to teaching - that is really what ourenthusiasm looking for education has come to. in the meantime, you hadadvantage go back to your wearisome uncomfortable nature, and leave meto de rigueur my proofs.cyril. writing an article! that is not deeply accordance after whatyou have just said.vivian. who wants to be in harmony? the dullard and thedoctrinaire, the tedious people who report minus their principles tothe bitter annihilate of battle, to the reductio ad absurdum of practice.not i. like emerson, i write over the door of my library the word’whim.’ besides, my article is really a most salutary and valuablewarning. if it is attended to, there may be a new renaissance offaculty.cyril. what is the submissive to?vivian. i intend to enlist it ‘the moulder of lying: a protest.’cyril. mendacious! i should have thought that our politicians kept upthat habit.vivian. i assure you that they do not. they never rise beyond thelevel of misrepresentation, and actually condescend to prove, todiscuss, to contend persuade. how unalike from the temper of the true liar, with his upfront, fearless statements, his cool irresponsibility, his healthy, natural disdain of proof of any kind! after all, whatis a peachy condition? austerely that which is its own evidence. if a curb issufficiently unimaginative to evoke evidence in support of a lie,he might objective as well speak the truth at once. no, the politicianswon’t do. so …

Food Shortages: It’s The Iraq War, Stupid

Like many guys, I don’t like to shop. The Dear Friend & Conscience, on the other hand, loves to shop and just the other day we went out to drop off an old wrought-iron lawn chair at a repair shop so that it could be spot welded and came home with three new bras and an omelet pan.

Now the DF&C needed bras and I needed an omelet pan because the old one was beginning to look like a Superfund site. But my point is that what was an enjoyable hour or so for her was painful for me.

Which got me to thinking about a larger painfulness as we strolled through an enormous but nearly deserted manufacturers’ outlet store complex:

Shopping has become an ordeal for the increasing number of people who don’t have a couple of hundred bucks to spend at the supermarket to keep their brood in Wheaties and peanut butter as food and gasoline prices skyrocket and they still have to make mortgage payments and fulfill other financial obligations.

In yet another sign that things are bad and getting worse, no less a capitalist bastion than the Wall Street Journal suggests that it may be time for Americans, who as it is spend far less on food than in most other countries, to begin stockpiling.

AWAKENING OF THE BEAST (1969)
Awakening of the Beast ( Seen this movie? What did you think? Comments: … the outrageously insane experience that Awakening of the Beast turns out to be. …

Ritual dos Sdicos, O (1970)

Awakening of the Beast DVD
AWAKENING OF THE BEAST officially got it’s premiere at a 1986 film festival in Rio De Janero. … AWAKENING OF THE BEAST is available from DVDEmpire.com …

In ‘Awakening Of The Beast‘ Marins appears both as himself and as Coffin Joe. … Awakening Of The Beast‘ is an extraordinary movie and quite unique. …

Writes Brett Arends:

“No, this is not a drill.

You’ve seen the TV footage of food riots in parts of the developing world. Yes, they’re a long way away from the U.S. But most foodstuffs operate in a global market. When the cost of wheat soars in Asia, it will do the same here.

Reality: Food prices are already rising here much faster than the returns you are likely to get from keeping your money in a bank or money-market fund. And there are very good reasons to believe prices on the shelves are about to start rising a lot faster.”

Now I’m not an economist, nor do I play one on TV. But it is obvious that there are several reasons for food shortages (principally rice, which is now being rationed by another capitalist bastion, Sam’s Club) and evidence that some Americans are indeed stockpiling.

The reasons for the shortages include dwindling food and fish stocks (duh!), inflation, climate change and the siphoning off food crops for fuel production. But the big engine is soaring oil prices, the Iraq war is the major cause for that and the Bush administration is of course the culprit.

DVD Savant Review: Awakening of the Beast
A DVD review by Glenn Erickson (DVD Savant) of the film Awakening of the Beast. … Awakening of the Beast suggests that Jose Mojica Marins was an extremely …

No, this is not another exercise in Blame The Decider For Everything because this shoe fits.

Amazon.com: Coffin Joe - Awakening of the Beast: ngelo Assuno …
Amazon.com: Coffin Joe - Awakening of the Beast: ngelo Assuno,Andreia Bryan,Ozualdo Ribeiro Candeias,Maurice Capovila,Jos Carlos (III),Maria Cristina (IV) …

One of the Forever War’s greater ironies is that we were led to believe that the fall of Saddam Hussein would, among other great and noble things, result in a windfall in U.S. oil imports and a more stable Middle East.

Just the opposite has happened, of course. Iraq is still struggling to bring production back to pre-invasion levels, a substantial amount of that oil is siphoned off for the gray and black markets, and the war has caused profound instability in the region, which has helped trigger ever higher crude oil prices.

Michelle collins

So what’s the U.S. to do?

Getting the heck out of Iraq is the no-brainer solution, but that’s not going to happen. Taking the food crisis seriously would be a good start, but just as the Bush administration is only beginning to whisper that the U.S. economy might be in recession, it is nowhere near prepared to ask Americans to make sacrifices — be they for war or waffles.

A little over a year ago, they owned 23.3 percent of the market. What’s this mean to you? Well, since the handset division will be its own company, they’re increasingly ripe for a cheap buyout, if anyone actually wanted to burden themselves with Moto. [Yahoo]

Why Obama Can’t Put Hillary Away

ron fournier of the ap wrote an article this morning entitled, “on deadline: why obama can’t close deal.” in it, fournier lists five reasons why hillary can notwithstanding prove to be a pretty pickle for obama come convention antiquated this august.1) tribe: the jury is that time over on whether a black control can overcome america’s original sin and be elected president… an ap-yahoo info question found that helter-skelter 8 percent of whites would be uncomfortable voting for a black president. the tangible percentage is presumably higher because voters are shy on touching admitting a ethnic prejudice to pollsters.that, plus you’ve got bubba playing the racecourse prankster by claiming obama’s campaign tried to pull the bed card on him, allegations from which he then tried to inch, then you have the nevada caucus brouhaha when the clinton camp tried to stop pro-obama union workers from caucusing and you secure a significant reason why hillary is still in this step on it. this isn’t a shortcoming on obama’s part as much as it’s a significant failing on the part of a campaign that’s all too willing and desperately inspirited to exploit racial divides.2) these are the folks who obama said “cling to” guns and god, an inelegant attempt to explain to san francisco liberals how gop operatives exploit democratic voters in anxious economic times. he bowled (poorly) and drank beer in a indistinct attempt to show a blue-collar touch.so obama is not electable because he’s a bad bowler and because he tried to connect with unhappy collar voters, which is absolutely unprecedented in an election year. and how make bold he put his finger on the pulse of the problem, that middle america isn’t decidedly exuberant and uninterrupted embittered about their station in life?3) friends in trouble: the longer the campaign goes, the more questions obama faces in his friends and associates.he was phoney onto the defensive by incendiary comments by his pastor, the rev. jeremiah wright. friend and fundraiser antoin “tony” rezko faces corruption charges.so how lay the same doesn’t dedicate to hillary and her long association with the recently-nabbed norman hsu, not to name her vastly underreported sole with alan g. quasha, head of bush’s former employer, harken energy? wal-mart? entergy? the list goes on like a who’s who of the sec’s 10 most wanted.4) innocence: it’s accurately that clinton has not at any time run a government or a business, but many voters give her impute for vicinity. they consider her experience as first lady preparation for the presidency.by any bulk, obama is relatively inexperienced, having left the illinois legislature less than four years ago. are you kidding me? john f. kennedy was also an inexperienced forty-something lawmaker, also with three years experience in the senate when he was elected.if voters think that eight years as first lady and “proximity” to the presidency is better preparation as a replacement for the ovoid office than obama’s vaster experience as a politician (seven years as an illinois state senator), then we are truly fucked.5) mettle: clinton’s backers love the fact that she fought republicans not to mention the “right-wing conspiracy” during her husband’s presidency. which doesn’t jibe with her disturbing willingness to work with the unchanged republican party that got us into this morass that we’re in right things being what they are regarding iraq, the tanking economy, you handle it. we don’t a slightly more masculine adaptation of joe lieberman, a former goldwater fianc?e, in the white house actively trying to form a “centrist coalition” that welcomes republicans that would love nothing more than to continue bush’s eight years of self-centered evil.if these are sober considerations, voting according to race, proximity masquerading as experience, troubling associations, then in a flash i’m not as confident for obama’s chances as i was. for some insane reason, american voters are coming around to the opinion that clinton would be a better peer against mccain despite the fact that, 1) clinton stock-still hasn’t put away obama and 2) she hasn’t a prayer of doing that unless the wild card superdelegates swing her way, giving a superhuman middle finger to the american people… because they, too, were fooled into believing that only hillary can apply for away mccain.

The New York Times foresaw the extinction of the human race. Widely-quoted biologist Paul Ehrlich predicted worldwide starvation by 1975.

“[south african] president thabo mbeki and his infamous colleague [zimbabwean president] robert mugabe are marooned on an isolated factional archipelago, eye blockade by diplomatic brickbats and flotsam; their knowledgeable bodies quivering and shivering in cold winds of backlash from mr. mbeki’s unwanted proclamation that zimbabwe is not a crisis situation. while mbeki ponders thoughtfully on the next move to restore a badly mutilated credibility, mugabe conspires with china to fend off a deluge of inevitable trendy electoral displeasure with chinese ak-47s, bullets and israeli water canons. meanwhile, 18 april independence celebrations at gwanzura arena was nothing more than a display of military force, a sure sign that the civilian concentrate can no longer hold at mugabe’s zanupf faction. he is doing require he knows best, defending his political range with stolen ballots and chinese bullets. in addition, mr. mugabe told us that ‘zanupf brought democracy to zimbabwe’ and roasted gordon brown, as predicted, for attempting to buy britain’s way clandestinely to position house of ill repute via mdc puppets’. harare residents were chided for voting for mdc whose agenda mugabe claims is only story giving zimbabwe back to its former colonial power wherefore he vowed the conflict would not ever assume political control of the country as long as he is alive. herein lays the contradiction. mugabe’s narrow grasp of democracy is one of a commodity that can be bought, sold and exchanged on the political market place. it is a preserve only for zanupf, and therefore anyone who encroaches onto this situation must be a give away out. we progressive zimbabweans would without delay like to expose this gigantic performance of archaic self-delusion. since 1980, zimbabwe has been, in mugabe’s own words, religiously holding elections every five years. he won each identical of them up until last month, pumping in millions in usa dollars of state resources in campaigns, materials, publicity, vote buying all in the name of ‘democracy’. in the procedure that is from 1985 thousands of innocent citizens have died in protection of this’ democracy, mostly under the hands of mugabe’s own repressive machinery. therefore, if he accuses the british of racist charlatanry during the reign of ian smith, what does he himself have to show for his zanupf brand of democracy in the past twenty eight years of his direction? moreover the good’ president has from start to finish got his facts wrong. robert mugabe was not even play a part of a rebellion within the zimbabwe african people’s bloc [zapu] in 1963 that formed zanu, but reverend ndabaningi sithole. in 1965, ian smith rebelled against britain by the unilateral declaration of independence [udi] and later proclaimed that africans [like mugabe and joshua nkomo] would not rule rhodesia in a thousand years. mugabe then enters the wear thin long after by deposing reverend sithole in a ‘prison room’ coup, before taking over the reigns from ian smith’s rhodesian front on april 18, 1980. to say zanupf shot the conservative party of margaret thatcher thoroughly of power in rhodesia is political gibberish….the second revelation one can make is about the trinity of evil that is colluding to withhold zimbabweans of steady audacious. zanupf, the judiciary and the zimbabwe election commission are a diabolical axis of vampires whose agenda is to perpetuate fascist dictatorship. so if mugabe is such a democrat, why are his institutions of governance so frightened by political competition? the more pertinent question uncommonly is: has he ever been loved by anyone ample to be voted championing purely on a voluntary main ingredient the essence of true democracy? of course not!” rejoice ngwenya, zimbabwean libertarian and head of coalition exchange for market & liberal solutions. zimbabwe’s government has refused to publish the results of the presidential poll held more than three weeks ago, which the opposition says is a ploy to steal the vote. there is also increased violence against the opposition
